On November 24, 2023, the Supreme Court of British Columbia granted an injunction suspending the application of the expanded mandatory disclosure rules in the ITA to members of the legal professions pending the outcome of the Federation’s challenge to the constitutionality of those provisions. The eighth annual Access to Justice Week (A2J Week) in Ontario took place from October 23 to 27, featuring a series of programs centered on the “10th anniversary of Canada’s Justice Development Goals” to celebrate the progress made in advancing access to justice and assess the work that lies ahead.

Today, the Law Society of Ontario’s (LSO) governing body (Convocation) approved the organization’s 2024 budget. Following several years of significant program, administrative and policy burden reduction for licensees and operations, the LSO has achieved many efficiencies.
This morning, the eighth annual Access to Justice Week (A2J) in Ontario (October 23 to 27), opened with a sunrise ceremony led by Indigenous Elder Myeengun Henry, marking the start of a week filled with educational sessions aimed at breaking down barriers to access to justice.
Fanshawe College has been selected from a competitive process to collaborate with the LSO on the design and development of the competency-based training program for paralegals that will enable them to provide certain legal services in family law. Fanshawe College will deliver the program – which is expected to launch in January 2025 – in both English and French.
The fourth annual National Access to Justice Week is taking place from October 23 to 27 with programming for legal professionals, community and justice sector workers and members of the public offered in collaboration with British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan. This year’s theme is centred around the 10th Anniversary of Canada’s Justice Development Goals.
