Working with the Law Society

Invitation to Apply for Membership to the Law Society Equity Advisory Group

The Law Society of Ontario is inviting applications from lawyers, paralegals, licensing candidates and representatives of legal organizations and associations for membership to the Equity Advisory Group (EAG).

Call For Expressions of Interest from Qualified Practitioners

The Law Society periodically retains Outside Counsel to support regulatory activities including investigations, expert evidence and opinions, and discipline prosecutions, and to act for the Society before the Courts in various matters. The Law Society retains practitioners who have experience in civil litigation, administrative law, regulatory law, real estate law, and other specialized areas of practice. Outside Counsel may also be retained by the Law Society’s Legal Affairs department to assist the organization’s general counsel.

Recommendations for External Appointments Application

As part of its mandate, the Law Society recommends potential appointees to a variety of boards, councils and committees.

In particular, the Law Society makes recommendations to the Attorney General for appointments to the Board of Legal Aid Ontario, The Justices of the Peace Appointments Advisory Committee and the Justices of the Peace Review Council, under the Legal Aid Services and the Justices of the Peace Acts. Recommendations for additional agencies are also made as required.

Proctors Needed

The Law Society of Ontario, Ontario’s governing body for legal services providers, is recruiting Proctors to monitor our Licensing Examinations.  We require proctors to work at our main sites and with our special needs candidates.

We have an immediate need for:

  • English-speaking Proctors to work at our Toronto Licensing Examinations, held nine times per year, in February, March, June, August, October, and November;
  • English-speaking Proctors to work at our London and Windsor Licensing Examinations, held twice per year, in June; and
  • Bilingual (fluency in English and French) Proctors to work at our Ottawa Licensing Examinations, held six times per year in June November and March.
