Practice supports

The Law Society has several practice supports to assist lawyers and paralegals with building, maintaining, and enhancing their technological competence:

The Practice Management Helpline is a confidential telephone service that answers questions from licensees about the Law Society’s rules of professional conduct, by-laws, and other professionalism and practice management topics. Licensees can connect with the Helpline for support with understanding their duty of technological competence. This includes, for example, ensuring confidentiality is preserved while using technology.

The Coach and Advisor Network provides licensees with access to shorter-term, outcome-orientated, participant-focused relationships with coaches and advisors drawn from the legal professions. Coaches are available to help licensees develop a specific technology skill or tackle a technology-related practice management best practice. Licensees can receive support from a coach on issues such as selecting technology, transitioning to a paperless office, file management, or setting up a remote law office.

The Great Library provides licensees with access to essential legal research and information services. Through the Great Library, licensees can access print and electronic books, articles, and journals on a breadth of technology topics covering everything from artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, e-commerce, electronic discovery, remote workplaces, and social media. The Great Library’s Know How Blog also provides licensees with practical research tips, highlights library resources, and identifies useful legal websites and legislative updates.
