Scope of service

The Great Library's Ask a law librarian service provides legal research assistance to Law Society licensees and their agents.

We can:
  • help you devise an effective research strategy
  • guide you to legal  texts and other commentary relevant to your research
  • retrieve cited decisions, articles, text excerpts and precedents
  • trace legislative amendments and history
  • note up cases, statutes, regulations and rules
  • instruct you in the use of the library's online resources
  • refer you to other libraries, government departments, websites, etc., where appropriate.
 

Please be advised that we cannot:

  • interpret legislation, case law or other legal materials
  • provide legal advice or opinions
  • select cases or legislation that apply to your research problem
  • conduct commissioned research on your behalf.
