Scope of service
The Great Library's Ask a law librarian service provides legal research assistance to Law Society licensees and their agents.
We can:
- help you devise an effective research strategy
- guide you to legal texts and other commentary relevant to your research
- retrieve cited decisions, articles, text excerpts and precedents
- trace legislative amendments and history
- note up cases, statutes, regulations and rules
- instruct you in the use of the library's online resources
- refer you to other libraries, government departments, websites, etc., where appropriate.
Please be advised that we cannot:
- interpret legislation, case law or other legal materials
- provide legal advice or opinions
- select cases or legislation that apply to your research problem
- conduct commissioned research on your behalf.
